Academic Update – 14th June 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

Firstly, thank you for all the support you have provided our Year 11 and sixth form students. They are nearly all finished in their exams! Our students have worked incredibly hard this year and deserve a well earned break before they start their next chapter!

Exam Fortnight for Years 7-10
The key focus for Years 7-10 right now is the end of year exams, which start on Monday 24th June. The exam timetable for all year groups is on the website and linked here so that you have a daily overview of the exams taking place and can therefore monitor revision. An example is below.

There will be revision materials made available on smarthomework for students to use but all have GCSEPOD and SAM Learning to keep them going after they have used all of these resources.

The Importance of Revision
As we move into the end of yet another assessment period, revision skills are really important to ensure students are revising and revising well. For many of our students this is the first time they have revised for the number of exams they will face at the end of a year and squeezed into just two weeks. Here are some tips to making sure revision is effective!

  1. Draw up a revision timetable
  2. Exercise
  3. Find a quiet space to revise (this can be in school)
  4. Get down to it in the morning on the weekends
  5. Spice up your revision with different methods (revision cards and watching YouTube clips
  6. Do plenty of past papers or exam questions
  7. Make summary notes
  8. Reward yourself
  9. Use your family
  10. Think Positive

Key Stage 3 Certificate Graduation
Students in Year 8 will be only our second cohort to graduate formally from the new KS3 3Cert Curriculum. As a result, we will be holding a graduation for them during Period 5 on the 17th July. They will receive a final certificate of achievement with all of their grades detailed from their subjects. This does mean that you will not receive a progress check until this date. We will also be making available their I Can Statement achievements, available to read online in due course. Unfortunately parents cannot attend this graduation but we will post pictures and videos online.

I hope this academic update is informative and useful and as always, if you need any support or advice about academic studies at Chelsea Academy, please do not hesitate to get in contact with me.

Kind regards,

Mr Ainsworth
Acting Vice Principal – Curriculum
