28 May Minehead KS3 football Tour
What a weekend
On Saturday 25th April PE teachers took three QPR League finalists with them to Minehead: Year 7 boys, Year 8 boys and KS3 girls,
The Year 7 boys got away to a stormer winning 4/4 games, putting them in with a chance to win the tournament. The KS3 girls were part of an Under 14 league, so had some tough matches against some even tougher opponents, but this didn‟t discourage them coming away on the first day with a 6-0 win. Year 8 were also unbeaten on the first day with 3 wins and a draw putting them in a strong position after the first round of matches.
The Sunday held some difficult matches for all the teams, the Year 8 boys were valiant in their efforts but unfortunately came 4th overall. The KS3 girls managed to secure a draw on their second day meaning they came away with 2nd, claiming the runners up trophy. Due to their outstanding behaviour, efforts and attitude they came away with the fair play trophy and medals, but this wasn’t enough, Zara Bouit also managed to secure the magic moment of the tournament receiving a signed ball from Stuart Pearce. The Year 7 boys gave their all to the tournament and this was rewarded with being crowned Minehead Football tour champions, securing their place in the finals of the ESFS held in Warwickshire. Sonny Blu Lo-Everton also won the magic moment of the tournament.
It was an incredible weekend; the students were fantastic and a credit to the Academy. Year 7 boys made history by being the first Chelsea Academy team to win the tournament, the girls once again claiming the fair play award, and the Year 8’s may have come 4th, but they were absolutely fantastic throughout the tournament and finished with lapping Mr.Sutcliffe on the Go Karts, a victory in itself. Roll on next year!!!
